Obstacle Commitment

Part 1

with Kristie

Obstacle commitment is a basic skill and a major core to agility training.

Does your dog take every obstacle you indicate ahead of you, or does your dog want you “right there” with them?  Does your dog turn around to look at you and/or stop before taking the obstacle you want them to take?

This “part 1” session is aimed at those dogs who are developing their ability to commit to the obstacle their handler has indicated, whether or not the handler is moving along with them.

We’ll start with a review of “choose to jump” and then will work on developing independence when given a cue to take an obstacle.

Part 2

This session will take Obstacle Commitment a step farther.

Does your dog usually takes the agility obstacle you have indicated (verbally or physically)? But – can you send them ahead without continuing your motion?  Can you send them to an obstacle while you move in a different direction (countermotion)?

If the answer to these questions is no or not usually, then this is the session for you!

Previous agility experience is required.
