Basic Canine Massage for You and Your Dog Sunday February 19th * 1:30 - 3:30 PM * Cost $45 plus tax * Mystic- My Dog’s Place This is a basic two hour workshop in massage techniques geared toward owners who wish to build a stronger bond with their dog, and those interested in a holistic approach to well-being.
Topics will include: *Basic canine anatomy and physiology * Benefits of canine massage * Reading canine body language and responding appropriately * Massage techniques and demonstration * Suggested areas for massage * Questions and answers
Much of the session will be hands-on, so please come ready to work. Detailed hand-outs will be provided so that you may continue practicing at home. Well behaved, non-aggressive dogs who can be comfortably crated are welcome, please ask for more details. You may attend with or without your dog. If you attend without your dog we will have several demo dogs for you to practice with.
Suzin Webb is the instructor for the Massage workshop. Suzin has graduated from the Small Animal Massage Program at the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy in Worcester Mass. She has done an internship at Stonington Veterinary Hospital and has received additional training in Reiki energy healing (Certified Level 2 Practitioner), Canine Acupressure and Tellington TTouch. Suzin has been bringing her dog, Karni, to classes at My Dog's Place since Karni was a pup.

This is a two hour workshop in massage techniques geared toward owners who are already practicing basic massage on their dogs and who wish to further develop their skills and learn new techniques. Topics will include:· Review of basic canine massage · Canine anatomy review and discussion of fascia · Developing palpation skills · Passive joint movements and stretching · Strokes and techniques for spinal muscles · Myofascial release techniques Much of the session will be hands-on, so please come ready to work. Detailed hand-outs will be provided so that you can continue practicing at home. Well-behaved, non-aggressive dogs who can be comfortably crated are welcome (please ask for details if uncertain). Trekking With Your dog Workshop next date TBA - 2 hours - $45 Instructor - Michael Bane Now is a great time get outside and have some fun with your dog. Hiking can be a nice way to spend time together and get some exercise. In this workshop we will cover how to get started with hiking, what to bring, where to go, choosing and fitting dog backpacks, trail lessons to teach your dog, basic safety & pet first aid, and handling the unexpected. During this session you can participate in a variety of activities such as introducing your dog to the backpack, trying out various hiking gear, taste testing a selection of human and dog foods that make great pack supplies, navigate an obstacle course with your dog, and practice administering pet first aid. Prerequisites: None.
Improving Your Leash Walking Instructor - Michael Bane Have you done an obedience class, but need more practice with Leash Walking? Do you have a new puppy and want to build good leash walking right away? If so, this workshop is for you. In this workshop, we will work specifically on teaching appropriate leash behavior. The course will include a variety of exercises and games to both improve leash walking skills and make leash walking more fun for both ends of the leash. Participants are encouraged (but not required) to bring a toy the dog enjoys. A long toy that the person and dog can both hold together is recommended (e.g. tug toy, Air Kong Stick, Bumper/retrieval-type toys). Portions of this workshop will be outside (weather permitting). Please dress accordingly. Prerequisite: None
