Accidental poisonings can happen quickly, be sure to take preventative measures
to keep your pet safe. Keep all dangerous substances locked up or in a safe place
inaccessible to your pet. Remember pets can be quite creative and curious,
sometimes getting to places we never imagined.
Common Household Hazards:
- Coffee grounds
- Any chocolate but especially the dark type
- Onions, Grapes and Raisins, yeast dough, Avocado, tea, alcohol, some nuts
- Any pain killers and human medications

- Most soaps, detergents and cleansers along with glues and adhesives
- Moth Balls, Batteries, Anti freeze, Gasoline, insecticides and herbicides
- Cocoa Mulch
Signs of Poisoning:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Depression
- Weakness
- Drooling
- Staggering
- Trembling (seizures)
- Dilated pupils
- Difficulty breathing
- Elevated heart rate (abnormal hyperactivity)
- Excessive drinking
- Oral or skin burns
Poison Safety Kit:
- Hydrogen Peroxide 3% and a baster or bulb Syringe to administer
- Can of soft pet food
- Saline eye solution
- Artificial tear gel
- Mild dish detergent to cleanse skin
- Rubber gloves
- Tweezers
- Muzzle (to help handle pets in pain or seizuring)
- Pet carrier ( to help transport pets in pain or seizuring)
